What is a Printable?

As the name suggests, printables are documents that users can print and use for various purposes. Today, many people subscribe to platforms that offer digital printables and infographic templates to simplify tasks. Common printables include:

– Calendar Planners

– Project Planners

– Meal Planners

– Financial Planners

– Checklists

– Stationery

– Journals

– Worksheets

– Spreadsheets

– Coloring Posters

– Flyers

If you possess the skill to design your printables, you can organize and sell your custom projects online.

**How to Sell Your Printable

Industry experts believe selling printables is a lucrative home-based business requiring minimal investment. You don’t need to be a graphic design whiz. Many necessary tools are affordable, and ample free online resources exist.

Consider the following tools based on your needs:

– Software for processing words, such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs.

– Spreadsheet Software (e.g., Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets)

– Desktop Publishing and Design Software (e.g., Adobe InDesign or Microsoft Publisher)

– PDF editors like PDFescape for interactive printables

– Raster and Vector graphic editors (e.g., Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator)

– Online design platforms like Canva or PicMonkey

*Designing a Printable

If graphic design isn’t your forte, research how others design their printables. Platforms like Google Images, Etsy, and Pinterest offer ample inspiration.

While seeking inspiration, don’t plagiarize. Observing others can help you grasp how to use color, font, and design effectively.

Steps for designing:

1. Generate ideas for printable designs. While one design may not earn much, bundling quick single-page designs for sale can be profitable.

2. Draft a prototype, sketching out your vision.

3. Choose branding elements like color themes and logos.

4. Plan the dimensions. Ensure they align with popular sizes, such as A-5 or classic planner dimensions.

5. Preview the printable to ensure it prints correctly.

6. Price your printable. While your rates may evolve, you can start by researching competitors’ prices. One advantage of digital printables is the ability to sell a design multiple times with minimal effort.

Selling Your Printable Online

Etsy is a popular platform for selling printables, but Creative Market and Fiverr are also options. For more business autonomy, consider setting up an online store—If you sell printables, then Shopify is a highly recommended platform.

Alternatively, create a website for your printables. This option offers the most control but requires technical expertise. We suggest utilizing WordPress in conjunction with e-commerce plugins.

Even on Etsy, promotion is crucial. With a plethora of online resources, standing out is critical. Consider the following marketing strategies:

1. Reach out to past clients via email or social media.

2. Offer a free printable as a lead magnet.

3. Optimize your listings with relevant keywords.

4. Write and share articles about your products, ensuring you link to them.

5. Start a YouTube channel or blog reviewing your products.

6. Use targeted social media ads.

Embracing the world of digital printables offers an exciting avenue for passive income, marrying creativity with business acumen. Whether you’re a design novice or a seasoned graphic artist, there’s room in the vast online marketplace for your unique offerings. You can build a thriving printable business with the right tools, a strategic approach to design, and targeted marketing efforts. Dive into this endeavor, remain consistent, and soon, you might find yourself earning and enriching many lives with your invaluable creations.

After making my own printable for some time now I think selling some of my designs or creating custom ones could help me make some extra money. I’ve started with Canva and then taught myself Photoshop and Illustrator so I’m pretty handy #shamelesspromotion haha
